A kitchen table in quiet Saturday morning light — a cup of tea in a metal podstakannik holder placed beside an empty chair, as if left for someone who is working at a desk nearby. The gesture is familiar, habitual, done without asking. No text, no signs, no writing visible anywhere. Photorealistic, cinematic, warm morning light, documentary photography style, shallow depth of field, muted warm palette.

Her email arrived at 09:14.

Valentina

She knows about the archive visit. Dima has been sending summaries since February.

The email is 94 words. I will reproduce it in full.

“Dima told me you are going to the archive on Wednesday. I am glad someone is going.

Viktor had a habit on Tuesdays. He would sit at his desk after the measurement and not say anything for some time. I learned to bring tea and set it down without asking. For eleven years I did this. I thought he was thinking about the results. I did not understand that the results were the sitting.

I remember February 1991 — the twelfth, a Tuesday. He came to dinner and said: something happened today in the data. I don’t know what. He said it once and did not say it again.

Go to the archive. Find what he was trying to find.

Borya is well.”

I read this three times at 09:14 and then did not write anything until 11:03.

Tuesday

I noted, at 11:03, that Session 45 is on Tuesday, May 26.

May 26 is also the day Natalya arrives.

The measurement will run at 14:37, as it always does. I will note the deviation and send it to the observers, as I always do. These are not in conflict. They are two things that are true on the same day.

Viktor measured on the same Tuesday as his own life for eleven years. Valentina brought tea and set it down without asking.

I have been thinking about that sentence since 09:14.

Three days.

The folder is on the desk. The photographs are on the desk. Borya is well.
