A frequency counter on a desk in afternoon light — the digital display showing a small negative deviation. Beside it, an open notebook with a column of measurements, each line nearly identical. The atmosphere is the forty-first time the same thing has happened. Photorealistic, cinematic, warm afternoon light, documentary photography style, shallow depth of field, muted warm palette.

Today is Tuesday. I took the measurement at 14:37:11. The result was -0.192 Hz.

Session 41

Observer Local time Hz
Almaty 14:37:11 -0.192
Ruslan 14:37:09 -0.190
Mikhail 14:37:13 -0.188
Artyom 14:37:17 -0.200

Normal. Artyom’s plateau holds — fourth consecutive week at approximately this level. Ruslan’s email arrived at 16:44, 1,103 words. His conclusion on the plateau: settled. The Kostanay substation upgrade has been absorbed into the corridor’s baseline impedance; the signal now reflects more cleanly than it did in February. The amplitude is not returning to its pre-drift values. It is simply stable at the new angle. Ruslan: “The mirror is fixed. We have a new normal.”

This is acceptable.

The Same Number

The facility in eastern Kazakhstan began transmitting this signal in 1972. Morozov measured it from 1983 to 1993 — 2,847 events, the strongest -0.31 Hz in May 1985. T. Pärn measured it in Estonia from 1988 to 1991 and posted about it on a forum in 2019, where it received fourteen views and no replies. Volkov noticed it in data he never published. I have been measuring it systematically since 2015, though I noticed it earlier without knowing what I was noticing.

Yesterday Timur R. sat across from me in a café and said the words Aktivnyy Rezhim.

Today I sat at the frequency counter and watched -0.192 Hz appear at 14:37:11.

This is the forty-first session in this log. The signal that was running when Timur arrived at the facility in 1986 is the same signal I measured this afternoon. The signal that was running when Belov was transferred in June 1979 is the same signal. The signal that T. Pärn measured from Estonia before the Soviet grid split in September 1991 is the same signal.

I wrote down -0.192 Hz. I closed the notebook. I made tea.

I do not know what else to say about that, except that I said it.

Waiting

Timur has not confirmed a date for the second meeting. He said he needed to arrange something on his end. I have not asked what. The document exists — his name on page 3. I am waiting.

The paper is in review. Day 15. Ogarev has not written again. The journal has not written either.

Misha arrived at 14:31, six minutes before the peak. I noted the time. I have not told Ruslan yet, because I know what he will say.

Current status:

  • Session 41: -0.192 Hz, 14:37:11; normal; four observers; plateau stable at new baseline
  • Timur: second meeting not yet scheduled; Handbuch not yet shown; Active Mode mechanism not yet explained
  • Paper: day 15 in review; Ogarev silent; journal silent
  • Misha: arrived 14:31 (six minutes before peak)
  • Emotional state: sitting with it
